Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has performed a knock out blow to Mario Kart 8, having become the fastest-selling Wii U game to release in the United States.

It’s been six years since Wii’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and anticipation surrounding the successor’s launch reached fever pitch to see the Wii U exclusive sell more than 490,000 combined physical and digital units in just three days – between 21st – 23rd November 2014.

The latest iteration holds strong with a Metacritic score of 92 and an equally positive user score of 9.2.

“The Nintendo holiday is off to a great start, but there’s a lot of work left to do and a few more surprises in store for our fans,” explained Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, Scott Moffitt.

“With great deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and great content like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launching next week, Nintendo will offer shoppers the best combination of fun and value this holiday season.”
