Nintendo reveal that certain amiibo will be “limited-time offers”

It isn’t long until Nintendo’s amiibo toys will be lining retailer shelves, although recent comments made by Satoru Iwata indicate that collectors will want to be quick to snap them all up.

Their foray into the toys-to-life category will see retailers stock what the company has deemed “staple choices,” although certain others will be “limited-time offers” that they will replace once stock runs dry.

We can largely interpret that to mean that regulars such as Mario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong will be in plentiful supply, whereas certain characters expected to sell in smaller quantities – like Marth and Wii Fit Trainer.

“The amiibo figure lineup for Super Smash Bros. will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves,” Iwata shared with investors this week.

“As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.

“With these offerings, I believe the Nintendo characters lined up on shelves, which usually only contain standard-sized boxes, will have an outstanding presence, and this means a lot to us.”
