Nintendo EAD Tokyo have already begun developing the next Mario game, although wouldn’t indicate whether it was destined for Wii U or 3DS.

“That’s still a secret!” producer Yoshiaki Koizumi exclaimed to EDGE. “I can tell you, though, that we’ve already started approaching our next challenge”.

Despite delivering plenty of new ideas within last November’s Super Mario 3D World, most notably the Double Cherry and Super Bell, it would appear that the team still have plenty of ideas up their sleeves. “There’s still a lot more room for discovery and invention, and we’ll continue to propose new and exciting game mechanics going into the future”, Koizumi added.

If it is the Wii U that is to be treated to the portly plumber’s next outing, co-director and EAD Tokyo team leader Kenta Motokura adds that they “might need to make even more use of the GamePad”.
