The Adventures of Captain Toad may make a solo return

Considering that they only served as diversionary content to Super Mario 3D World’s main dish, The Adventures of Captain Toad can easily be seen as having been a highlight for many.

Thankfully Nintendo have acknowledged such fact, with the game’s co-director Koichi Hayashida explaining that they will “consider doing something with this feature in the future” if enough interest is shown.

“We thought they were a lot of fun, so we’re really glad everyone likes them too”, Hayashida discussed with EDGE. “If enough fans express such enthusiasm, we’d consider doing something with this feature in the future”.

As to where they drew inspiration for the concept, fellow co-director Kenta Motokura shared that it wasn’t from the shorter experiences regularly found on smartphones.

“They weren’t inspired by smartphone games”, Motokura clarified. “The idea was to design a game that would become even more fun as you play through it, and this influenced the pace of the game, effectively increasing the rhythm. We felt that a short challenge with quick results would be a good motivation for players to advance onto the next course”.

  1. Yes! The Captain Toad levels were great and I hope Nintendo finally gives Toad his own proper game.

He deserves it so much now – if Luigi is behind Mario’s shadow, then Toad must be behind Luigi’s shadow.
