Viral sensation Flappy Birds, shrouded in controversy after creator Dong Nguyen dramatically pulled it from the iOS and Android app stores after intrusive media scrutiny, has now become playable on either 3DS or DSi.

A fan, Bluerobin2, has recreated the game in Nintendo DSiWare programming tool Petit Computer, named Flappy Bird – PTC Edition. Replicating the entire experience, it sees players “flap” by tapping the screen or use the handheld’s buttons in an effort to avoid colliding with an increasingly convoluted array of green pipes. If desired, this will be expanded further to introduce checkpoints, moving pipes and hills, and any other ideas that come to mind.

It provides a viable alternative to the original, which was downloaded 50 million times and had been generating $50,000 (£30,000) worth of revenue daily for Nguyen after word spread of the game’s simple and yet addictive design through social media.
