So, did you see that Nintendo Fusion rumour?

I chose to ignore the tenuously rumoured Nintendo Fusion when it emerged. Whilst Nintendo will have undoubtedly begun toying with ideas for their next console, as with any hardware manufacturer, it was far too soon for anything to have leaked online before the company had even brought their full weight to bear behind the Wii U.

Purported to be a handheld and home console hybrid, comprising of a Fusion DS and Fusion Terminal, it already sounded ludicrous let alone taking a glance down the conjured up technical spec. If that wasn’t enough, Kotaku‘s probing into the two sources of the rumour leaves no question as to its legitimacy.

Anyway. Some super sleuthing by Nintenderos has revealed that the name can be more closely associated with the likes of Evanescence, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco, let alone that of Nintendo themselves.

Thanks to their detective work, we can even go as far as to say that some of you may have already experienced Nintendo Fusion, considering that it has turned out to be the name of a rock music and video game festival sponsored by Nintendo between 2003-2006.

It was a concerted effort to promote emerging artists, whilst also allowing the company to push their latest releases across GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and Wii throughout the years before it was axed.

Nintendo of America still retain a domain for nintendofusion.com as well, which they would never do for an internal codename. So, I guess that’s that.
