Indie RPG Soul Saga set for Wii U release

Soul Saga has become the latest indie project to set its sights on Wii U, having gained the necessary funds through Kickstarter.

Independent developer Disaster Cake describes their project as “a love letter to JRPG classics from the PlayStation era like Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, and Persona,” each being worthy inspiration that helped define the genre.

Having achieved the project’s initial funding barrier of $60,000, lone creator Mike Gale delivered a series of stretch goals to extend the further.

Now sat at $82,823 with 16 days to go, it has already soared past two of these: voice acting, and seeing the game release across Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and the PlayStation 4.

Oterra is the world that the game is based, its surface ravaged after the events of an ancient cataclysm that has separated the planet into three layers: the Sky Islands of Medonia, the Tempest Reed, and the Surface World of Oterra.

You play as Mithos, who is determined to save the floating city of Medonia by killing the King of Dragons by building his own guild of allies.

The indie scene on Wii U continues to excite, and this is another we can’t wait to play.
