It was certainly a surprise when SEGA announced their intention to deliver high-definition remakes of the Yakuza series’ first instalments.
Yet according to the game’s producer Toshihiro Nagoshi, the publisher is seeing it as more of “an experiment” to see whether Wii U owners would be interested in such hardcore releases.
“To be honest, we’re not aiming to see if the game will be a smash hit,” Nagoshi revealed. “Our real intention is that we want to see how people respond. “The existing [Wii U] users are different [from PlayStation owners], so isn’t it hard to say if it makes sense?”
So far they’ve only been confirmed for a Japanese release, but hopefully they’ll make their way west at some point.
