Notion Games have confirmed that they have become the latest addition to Nintendo’s swelling ranks of independent developers creating games for Wii U.

“Notion Games just got approved by Nintendo as official [Wii U] developers! Yay!!!,” confirmed studio founder and lead artist Andrew Augustin through Twitter.

Notion Games are currently developing Super Ubi Land, a platformer that takes its inspiration from classics in the genre such as Super Mario World, Kirby’s Dreamland and Donkey Kong Country.

It is described as being “a love letter to fans who wish to continue to play 2D based platformers similar to the ones we all loved to play during the NES and SNES era.”

Alex's early adoration for Nintendo began with a Yellow Game Boy and a copy of Donkey Kong Land. This developed over the years, later peaking when he hid in his room to play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time one Christmas. Nowadays, his enthusiasm is shared through Nintendo Insider, a place in which he can document his thoughts regarding the big N.
