Nintendo: Wii U information to be shared “throughout the entire year”

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime appeared live on Spike TV from the International Consumer Electronics Show 2012, in which he was briefly able to plug the Wii U.

Whilst there was a distinct lack of new information, of most significance was that Fils-Aime promised Nintendo would be “sharing information throughout the entire year”, and “we aren’t saying that you’ll have to wait until E3”.

“So essentially we will be sharing information throughout the entire year”, Fils-Aime stated. “I won’t say that you’re going to have to wait until E3, but we certainly aren’t breaking new information here – no launch date, no launch price, no software line-up. But we will be sharing a lot of information all through the year on how we will be driving Wii U into households”.

Fils-Aime also re-confirmed that Shigeru Miyamoto is currently developing a new IP for the console, and assured that at launch Nintendo would “have the experiences to drive the install base”.

It was previously expected that Nintendo would closely guard all details regarding the Wii U until E3 2012, where Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata previously confirmed would see the company unveil the home console’s “final format”.

If there was something evident within Fils-Aime’s comments, it was a signal of intent that the Wii U will see a significant consumer marketing push to ensure that Nintendo can attempt to get ahead of the oft rumoured successors currently under development by their competitors.
